The Leadership Institute
Eligibility: Eligible applicants must be active members of the Ohio Women’s Bar Association (at the time of application) and have at least five (5) years of practice experience.
The 2024-2025 Curriculum: Cohort members will engage a robust curriculum facilitated by a diverse group of educators, facilitators, professional panels and thought leaders on topics such as dynamic leadership; effective communication; diversity, equity, inclusion and access; entrepreneurship & business development; health and wellness; and personal branding. The below curriculum track will be followed during the course of the program: Please note that the topics and dates may change due to the needs of the cohort.

Wrap-Around Supports: The program also features targeted wraparound supports to assist cohort members in their leadership journey. These supports, include, but are not limited to:
- 360 leadership assessment tools
- One-on-one executive coaching
- Access to an on-line coaching and resource platform
- The Leadership Institute Power Breakfast Series: The Power Breakfast Series features prominent lawyers, thought leaders and business strategists, who speak on a variety of leadership topics. Casual networking and a breakfast precede the engaging and interactive presentations. Each speaker provides key takeaways on the topics covered. The Power Breakfast Series is open to OWBF/OWBA Leadership Institute alumni, sponsors, partners, and special guests.
- Mentorship Lunch: The mentorship luncheon is designed to foster connection between current LI cohort members and LI alumni.
Tuition Cost*: Program tuition is $2,000. The cost of tuition includes:
- Admission for one (1) to the Leading the Way Award Celebration
- Workshops and Trainings
- Executive Coaching
- 360 Leadership Assessment Tools
- Leadership Institute Power Breakfast Series
- Receptions, and
- Mentorship Opportunities.
*Cohort members are responsible for costs associated with travel to and from host locations and any associated hotel stays. These costs are not included in the cost of tuition.
Cohort Commitment: The 2024-2025 program runs from September 2024 through March 2025. Meetings are held once a month from 8:45 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at various host locations across Ohio. It is expected that all cohort members actively participate and attend every meeting to the best of their ability.
OWBF Public Service, Solo and Small Firm Scholarship
Attorneys from government agencies, non-profit organizations, and solo and small firms (10 or less attorneys) are eligible to apply for the OWBF Public Service, Solo and Small Firm Scholarship. The scholarship will offer full tuition to one qualified candidate. The purpose of the scholarship is to ensure the participation of a woman lawyer who may otherwise not have the ability to participate. If you wish to be considered for this scholarship, in addition to the Leadership Institute Application, please attach a personal statement (approximately 300 - 500 words) addressing the following:
- How participating in the OWBF Leadership Institute will impact you, personally, as well as your practice;
- What you hope to learn by participating in the Leadership Institute; and
- Financial need.
Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship
We are pleased to offer a Leadership Institute Tuition Scholarship to promote Diversity and Inclusion by Marilyn McClure-Demers. This scholarship is intended for an individual that brings a unique perspective to the practice of law as a result of their diverse background, which is defined by race, ethnicity, religious background, disability, geographic location, and/or professional segment of practice. The scholarship will offer full tuition to a qualified candidate of diverse background, and ensure the participation of a woman lawyer who may otherwise not had the ability to participate. This may include government lawyers, solo-practitioners, minorities, and members of other under-represented groups.
If you wish to be considered for a Diversity Scholarship, in addition to the Leadership Institute Application, please attach a personal statement (approximately 300 - 500 words) addressing the following:
- How you promote diversity and inclusion in your practice;
- The diverse perspective you would bring to the Leadership Institute; and
- Financial need.
About the Leadership Institute
The Leadership Institute is a program of the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation. It was created by top women leaders in Ohio to assist women lawyers in developing their leadership skills. The Leadership Institute is very proud to be formed by notable women leaders that served on our founding Advisory Committee.
Why a Leadership Institute for Women? The Leadership Institute is designed to lend a hand and to help women who are emerging leaders with practical knowledge and strategies on business development so as to attain significant leadership roles. Our program is ideal for women attorneys who have been in practice for at least 3 years and are looking to advance their career and hone their leadership skills. The Leadership Institute is also a great opportunity to build lasting friendships and expand your network with other women attorneys throughout the State of Ohio.
