Description:

We seek to honor an individual who has made significant contributions to advancing opportunity and representation in the legal profession, particularly through mentorship, sponsorship, and advocacy in support of attorneys from a wide range of backgrounds.

Criteria should include:

  1. Each nominee must be an OWBA member in good standing.

  1. Innovative Initiatives.  For example, being a thought leader in creating innovative programs or initiatives that have had a positive impact, and implementation of practices that go beyond the standards of the organization.  

  2. Leadership and Advocacy. For example, demonstrating leadership in promoting initiatives within an organization and/or community, creating/leading policy changes and/or educational programs to promote representation in all substantive work/programming/leadership, and advocacy for issues and the advancement of individuals. 

  3. Mentorship, Allyship and Support. Supporting and encouraging individuals to reach their legal career and personal goals, ensuring opportunities for the advancement of  attorneys through direct mentorship and sponsorship and demonstrating allyship to the community.

  4. Community Engagement. Participating in or supporting the Ohio Women’s Bar Association or bar associations, and contributing to the broader community. 

For purposes of this award, a wide range of backgrounds is defined as lawyers who are women, Persons Of Color (POC), those that live with disabilities and/or LGBTQ+.
